Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian has been a Canadian and American feminist media analyst for more than twenty years. She is well-known as a public speech writer. Feminist Frequency provides videos, commentaries and analysis of portrayals in popular cultures. Anita Sarkeesian is an award-winning feminist journalist from Canada and a blogger. She is the creator and executive director of Feminist Frequency A scholarly not-for-profit website which explores representations of women within popular stories of culture. She's committed to removing stereotypes of women as they are depicted in pop culture. Additionally, she works to raise awareness of online harassment directed at women and marginalized groups of people. Sarkeesian who has an MA in Political and Social Thought from York University, is a popular public speakers. She has spoken at TEDxWomen's XOXO Festival and the United Nations Broadband Working Group to Gender. Inquiring about gender and feminism since an early age she launched her site Feminist Frequency in 2009, while studying at the university. She was a young woman who wanted to create a series of web videos that would examine gender roles in video games. But, she was victimized by online harassment. This attack was not enough to deter her. Instead, it increased her importance to be a feminist as well as media critic. Numerous awards have been given to her for her contributions to the field she have made. Anita Sarkeesian, a media critic, has been awarded several awards and founded Feminist Frequency as an educational nonprofit that studies the way women are depicted in media narratives.
